Hawaii Cruise Shore Excursion Tips

Author: Kolohe Keone

Source: articledashboard.com

Shore excursions, rv travel tip , are what separate one cruise for another. If you never got off the ship, it wouldn't matter where you were.

That said, while a Hawaii vacation cruise offers something for everyone, not every shore excursion is suitable for every person. For example, my wife is not a strong swimmer so she immediately ruled out any of the scuba or snuba (a cross between scuba and snorkeling) activities.

One way to choose the excursions that are just right for you is to look at the amount of physical activity each requires. What follows is based on information provided by Norwegian Cruise Lines (http://www.ncl.com). I chose NCL because we were fortunate enough to take one of their cruises aboard the Pride of Hawaii this spring.

Norwegian divides their shore excursions into three activity levels.

Mild

"Tours with this symbol involve walking over relatively level terrain, possibly some cobblestone, gravel or a few steps. Comfortable shoes are recommended. If it's a water activity, well, choice of shoes is up to you."

One example would be the Atlantis submarine tour. You must be able to climb down (and back up) a short ladder to enter and leave the submarine. Once aboard, you'll relax and look out the oversize port holes at the sandy bottom, coral reefs and abundant rainbow of tropical fish. On the Oahu submarine tour, we even saw the wreckage of a fighter plane laying on the bottom.

Moderate

"Tours with this symbol involve a considerable amount of physical activity such as substantial walking over uneven or cobblestone streets, climbing stairs or steep terrain. They are not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. Comfortable, sturdy shoes are recommended. (Unless, of course, you're swimming.)"

A good example of this would be the 'Tree Top Zipline Adventure'. Soar through the canopy of Kauai's silent giants; a unique Norfolk pine forest towering upwards of 200 feet. Enjoy six different zipline runs entwined with seven aerial deck transfers, a 70-foot high suspension bridge and a 65-foot high dual rope crossing.

Here's a tip. If this sounds like something you really want to do, book as early as possible. Zip line is one of the most popular shore excursions and sells out fast.

Strenuous

"Tours with this symbol involve physical exertion for extended periods of time. The terrain may be uneven or steep. This designation can also indicate the need for swimming in a light current, bicycle riding or horseback riding. They are recommended only for the physically fit and adventurous traveler."

One extremely popular shore excursion that fits this bill is 'Haleakala Bicycling At Sunrise'. This one also sells out extremely fast, so book early.

You'll rouse yourself out of bed at 3:00 AM for the van ride to the volcano summit. After "the sunrise experience of a lifetime", you'll mount your bike and coast down the 38 miles of road back to the bottom.

Many of the mild activities are wheelchair accessible. If you need special accommodation, speak with your booking agent or the cruise director.

One thing we can recommend is to avoid over scheduling yourself. Allow time for rest and relaxation, too. If you book too many shore excursions in a row, they start blending together and wearing you down. On a weeklong cruise, pick one day near the middle of the trip to laze by the pool or participate on the on ship programs.

Experience Traveling in a Different Light - Backpack, Volunteer, Work

Author: Nicole Berg

Source: ezinearticles.com

If you have a passion for international travel that exists outside the "tourist" box, the possibilities are endless. You don't need an excessive budget to travel the world nor do you need to do what is typical when on vacation. There are ways to not only see and experience a country, but a chance to immerse yourself to be a part of a place that is initially foreign to you.

Growing up in the United States has limited myself and fellow Americans from having the convenience of traveling abroad. First off, our country is diverse enough in climates and subcultures to keep domestic travel exciting. Secondly, we only border Canada and Mexico, which leaves little room to understand the extent of our world. And lastly, the thought of any overseas travel is just expensive, especially flights departing from the U.S.

The above are examples that hinder us to break out of our comfort zones and experience what the world has to offer. Traveling should be more than the destination, the photo of the famous landmark, and the overpriced souvenirs that we bring home. It should open our eyes to things we can't understand by remaining in our comfortable lifestyles.

The following are three ways to explore a variation to the standard vacation:

Backpack: The most affordable way to visit other countries is to break out of the typical style of vacation and do things a little bit differently. An easy way to do that is to get a Lonely Planet book specific to your destination. Lonely Planet is a travel guidebook that offers information on everything that will help you enjoy your experience to the fullest while keeping money in your pocket. Instead of booking a hotel online, look under 'Accommodations' and read about some hostels or guesthouses that are much more affordable and a great way to meet other travelers to pick up even more tips. Find some great hole-in-the-wall cafes that offer authentic, cheap and usually the most delicious cuisines. There are even excellent maps to help you navigate the city and all different means of transportation to do so. The greatest way to really get a good feel for a place is to watch the locals, talk to the locals and make friends with the locals. Locals are a great insight to step away from, canada travel tip , being the tourist and truly experience the culture.

Volunteer: Volunteering in a third world country is an incredible opportunity to learn about a lifestyle we could never imagine by simply reading about. It is a chance to give back to the less fortunate and acquire immense personal growth. There are many online volunteer programs, although some of which are quite expensive. A more affordable way to volunteer is to look into a Lonely Planet book specific to your chosen country.

Work: Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) is one of the largest international industries available to Native English Speakers. Depending on which country you look for work in, the prerequisites will vary. Bachelor's Degree, TESL Certificate, and teaching experience are a few things you may need to have in some countries, but others you will just need to be a Native English Speaker. Dave's ESL Cafe is a large international job board that lists work opportunities all over the world. http://www.daveseslcafe.com

The world is a playground full of opportunities you never thought possible. Knowledge is extremely helpful in experiencing the world, but a passion for travel will take you anywhere you desire to go.

Cheap International Airfare

Author: Steven Gillman

Source: articleage.com

Always looking for the cheapest way to do things, I searched several websites that claimed to have cheap international airfare. The cheapest from Traverse, arizona tip travel , City, Michigan to Quito, Ecuador, was $1720. Out of curiosity, I checked Miami to Quito, and it was only $404. Airfare from Traverse City to Miami was $299. Book two separate flights and I could save more than $1000! The discount sites aren't set up to check in this way, so you have to do this on your own.
Of course, if your first flight is late and you miss the second, you may not get a refund, so plan some time between flights. In any case, it's still cheaper (every time I checked) to just book a flight to Miami and catch a flight to Quito without a reservation, thus avoiding this problem. This strategy is for those in towns without international airports. If you live in Miami, you already have cheap international airfare.
Buy Cheap Aifare Online
We've found that travel agencies just can't compete with the discount ticket websites. You can search Google ("cheap airfare Europe", for example), or go straight to one of the well-known sites, like Expedia, Travelocity, Cheap Tickets, Hotwire or Priceline.
Doing a quick search for the cheapest airfare from Tucson, Arizona, to Buenos Aires, Argentina, using the five sites mentioned, here's what I just found: They ranged from $1221 down to $873 for the lowest fares, with fares as high as $3728. Hotwire happened to be the cheapest, but they were the worst of the five when I searched for a domestic flight earlier. You cannot say which service will find the cheapest international airfare from week to week. My number one money-saving tip is to always check several websites when shopping for inexpensive flights.
Courier Flights
Courier companies ship things using the luggage space of an aircraft passenger. It can be quicker, cheaper, and more reliable than sending the shipment unaccompanied, since checked luggage bypasses many of the typical customs delays. The company purchases tickets, and then they resells them to you. In exchange for your luggage space, they give you a discount on the airfare.
I saved $160 on my plane tickets this way when I went to Ecuador the first time. I had several suitcases full of car parts, but there was a representative of the courier company on either end, and I looked inside the luggage, so I knew what I was carrying. I carried a plane propeller on the return trip, which wasn't much trouble, and made a good story.
It's easiest to be an air courier if you travel alone. Ocassionally, a courier company will have opportunities for flights on or near the same date. If not, your travel partner can pay full fare on the same flight. You also are usually allowed carry-on luggage, since the point is for the shipping company to use your checked luggage allowance.
Once in a while, air couriers fly internationally for free, and almost always very cheap. It's a matter of how badly the company needs you and how flexible you are (can you fly to London on Friday?). Air courier opportunities are becoming rarer, due to the recent heavier regulation of international flights, but there still are opportunities. Find out more at The Air Courier Association Website (www.aircourier.org). The ACA can also help you get really cheap plane tickets by way of airline ticket wholesalers, discounters, last minute specials, and stand-by travel.
More Tips For Cheap International Airfare
When searching the discount websites, try several different departure and return dates if you can. The difference of a day or two can save you a lot. There's little logic to airfare pricing, so don't try too hard to figure it out. Just be aware that if you leave on Friday instead of Wednesday (or vice-versa), you may save $100.
Check the boxes that say "any time" for departure and "2 or more connecting flights". Even if you aren't sure that you want to leave at midnight, see what your options are. The savings might change your mind. When search criteria allow you choices, first take the ones that are the least restrictive for the airlines. If the savings aren't enough, you can always book first class, direct flights, or whatever you prefer.
Buying your plane tickets two weeks in advance is usually cheaper. There can be a dramatic difference (but not always) if your trip is over thirty days. You may want to cut it from 32 days to 30 to save hundreds of dollars on your fare. Play with the dates. You never know what you might discover.
When my wife and I went to Ecuador for six weeks, the cheapest discount plane tickets we could find were $3400. Instead, we took a bus to Miami ($352 round-trip for 2), then flew from there to Quito ($622 round-trip for 2). We saved $2400. I'm not recommending this, but for us, it was worth a couple days on a bus. (The whole six weeks cost $2400.)
Spend a few minutes or an hour to do some research, if you want really cheap international airfare.
Steve Gillman hit the road at sixteen, and traveled the U.S. and Mexico alone at 17. Now 40, he travels with his wife Ana, whom he met in Ecuador. For more on cheap airfare, plus travel stories, tips and information, visit: http://www.EverythingAboutTravel.com

How To Find Discount Airfares Within Europe

Author: Tristan Heffernan

Source: articledashboard.com

There are a number of things to consider if you are looking for discount airfares within Europe. As we often push on our site - the cheaper you can find your airfares, the more money you will have in order to enjoy your trip. So, here are 3 tips for finding the cheapest discount airfares for your next trip to Europe.

Smaller Airlines Are Your Friend

When it comes to finding discount airfares,, cheap tip travel , the bigger airlines are not always going to have the cheapest flights. Often, your best bet is to check out the smaller airlines, as they are looking to attract customers, and often their main method is simply by offering discount airfares. These small airlines tend to just travel within Europe, and are thus better placed to pass on savings to you, the (now) happy traveller!

Bid, Beg, and Steal (well, almost…)

There are going to be a lot of different discounts that you might be able to find when you are looking for discount airfares within Europe. In fact, these great discounts and coupons are very easy to use - the only trouble you are going to have is finding them! It is simply not enough for you to think that the airline is going to tell you the best deal right up front. Pester them. Ask them what they can do for you. You need to keep your eyes open for discounts and coupons, and when you are booking your flight you have to be sure to ask them all of the different questions that you might have on your mind. This is a very good concept, and it is a great way to find the best discount airfares within Europe.

See Europe … All Of It!

Since Europe is small compared to the rest of the world, one of the best options that you have for finding discount airfares within Europe is to see what other destinations offer you. Oftentimes, it is going to be much cheaper to fly into a nearby city and take a train or a bus to the place that you need to be.

You might save a lot off your airfare, even after you have gotten the train or bus ticket. Keep in mind, the best way to find discount airfares within Europe is to be flexible and curious, and to explore all of the options that you have before you begin to book your tickets. You might be surprised at what you find. Enjoy your trip!

Keltic Seafaring

Author: Robert Baird

Source: articleage.com

Many academics are unable to handle the possibility of ships that travelled the oceans as long ago as the Franchithi Caves dig that showed 13,000 B.C. community fishing fleets. It even was hard for most to accept the Kelts at the time of Caesar had this technology at that time despite the words of Caesar. Some people think knowledge once gained is never lost but that is far from true. Barry Fell was a Harvard Professor of Oceanography before he got the bug to expose the truth. Some (Like Wiseman in Archaeology Magazine of 'Camelot in Kentucky' article from 2001) ridicule Fell as "self-taught" in matters such as Ogham. Truth is, Fell took one of the only small courses available at the time from Edinburgh University. Who can really learn the truth from academics that hide it? His name was made dirt by academics but his legacy from America B.C and Bronze Age America has been sweet vindication.
Here is a little of the story of his travails, which is presented for more reason than just the obvious need to reinforce on the existence and loss of Keltic seacraft technology. The rise and fall of Celtic sea power has been strangely neglected {Although the movie 'Spartacus' shows Kirk Douglas arranging passage to Italy from the Kelts[Silesians and Galatians are Kelts back to the time of Punt] who ruled the Sea.} by most historians and archaeologists as to prompt much skepticism when first I began to report Celtic inscription in America. 'I can't say I've ever heard that the Celts were seafarers,' was a typical comment. Those who recall that Julius Caesar described the Britons as mostly naked savages, wearing only iron torques about their necks, {A torquetum or tanawa is an ancient sextant known to have existed in this period as Maui navigated for a well known Greek and was able to calculate longitude.} sometimes with the skin of a beast cast over the shoulders, think of the Britons as having nothing better than one-man coracles for crossing water.
Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, most of Book III of Caesar's 'De Bello Gallico' is devoted to the greatest naval battle he was ever called upon to mount. And his adversaries? None other than the Celts of Brittany, whose fleet was swelled by the arrival of a flotilla they had summoned from their allies in Britain! The combined Gallic and British naval armament comprised an immensely powerful force, numbering, so Caesar tells us, no less than 220 ships, all larger than and superior in construction to those of the opposing Roman navy under Admiral Brutus. These Celtic ships, Caesar says, were so soundly constructed that they could outride tempestuous or contrary winds upon the very ocean itself without sustaining injury ('De Bello Gallico', books III,XIII,I.). It is clear that these fine vessels, which towered over the Roman galleys, had the capability of crossing the Atlantic Ocean 'vasto atque aperto mari', "upon the vast open sea," as Caesar indicates."(2)
Does it cross your mind that these ships were in fact employed in such voyages to the Americas? Why had Caesar never seen their like before? The wind went down and the Roman galleys threw grappling hooks into the Celtic rigging and sails then boarded them. Caesar made a deal (as was his wont) with the cousins of his ancestors who were not in control of all. He gave them full citizenship of Rome, which they in fact had established after defeating the Tarquin kings of Etruria. Thus the nature of Catholicism and the Anglican church has a long and sordid past association, as they outlawed the Druids and put a bounty on their heads. Can you see why we think the Toltecs or others in America might have Druidic roots? There is no further mention of British or Gaulish naval vessels in Caesar's commentaries, nor does Tacitus in the century that followed give any space or consideration to native naval might. It seems that the battle against the Veneti was the end of Celtic sea power in classical times. Except for the periodic truculence by British chiefs like Queen Boadicaea.
NORMAN TOTTEN: - "The Eye of God and the Agricultural Grid
By Norman Totten
Bentley College, Waltham, Massachusetts
Impetus for this kind of research was the need to understand the "atna-kuna" motif so prevalent in Celtic New England and Iberia, and frequently associated with the "eye of Bel". James Whittall has been locating examples of it in Portugal and Spain. Fell, Dix, and Oedel have recently published observations about, canada travel tip , it.
This presentation is limited to what seems to be the two predominant symbolic forms of the sun and earth in ancient inscriptions - - the eye of the sun god and the cultivated field grid. Both have occurred in numerous varieties, visually and phonetically. This paper should be read as a progress report, incomplete in its consideration and somewhat tentative in its conclusions regarding a vast and complex problem.
I. Morphology and Dissemination: Eye of the Sun
Though he later equivocated about which direction the evolution had occurred, Sir Arthur Evans (1984, p. 303) set forth the basic forms of the eye of Ra - - from one complete with lashes (rays) to a circle (pupil) enclosing a smaller circle or dot (iris)." (6)
This is important to understanding the worldwide cultures and the elite corporate traders. The circle with a dot is the Mark of Qayin or Cain (Gardner's Genesis of the Grail Kings and other sources) and as such it is the adept cartouche or signifying token for the family of Jesus and the 'arch-tectons' (Septuagint) of the Great Pyramid.
In 'Bel' we have the Keltic God as well as the Mesopotamian (later) God. To find them so closely associated or connected in the Iberias that now carry names like Spain, Ireland and North America adds a great additional clue to the Tartessian (source of the 'Biblical Ships of Tarshis') sites being excavated or studied in Anatolia and Portugal. They all start with Iberia in the Caspian and the Black Sea region that is the genetic homeland of the Kelts some 30-35,000 years ago. Because we can genetically and forensically trace and track these people and marry them to dateable artifacts we have a credible history untainted by kingly or priestly power mongers.
Another ESOP excerpt from the work of Totten deals with Moroccan monastics exiled to America in the 5th Century AD. "In Figuig the monks were solitary (monachos), but in communal life (Koinos Bios) of brothers (fratres), a friary. Their form of testifying (martyrium) under persecution was not death in an arena for the pleasure of pagan spectators but exile, exile to the wilderness of America." (7)
TERRACOTTA HEAD OF A ROMAN IN MEXICO: - "This year, Scandinavians celebrate the 1,000 years since Leif Ericsson sailed to the New World from Greenland. Bjarni Herjolfsson was supposedly the first to step ashore on the New World. Historians have long believed that Ericsson's colony at L'Anse aux Meadows, on the northern-most tip of Newfoundland, represented the first evidence of Europeans on the continent {When Farley Mowat wrote about it in 'Westviking' he was ridiculed.}. However, a wide variety of archaeological evidence points to earlier contact.
A black terracotta head of a bearded man, about 2 in (5cm) tall, found in the Toluca Valley about 40 miles (64km) west of Mexico City in 1933 and dated by thermoluminescence to about 200 AD, could be the first reliable proof that Roman sailors reached America. It is different in style from any other known pre-Columbian artwork and has been identified as Roman by art experts. Although much was written about the head since its discovery, its whereabouts were unknown until 1994, when it was found locked away in a Mexico City museum by a US anthropologist appropriately named Dr Roman Hristov.
A review of the circumstances surrounding the head's discovery confirmed it was placed in its burial ground no later than 1510 - a decade before the Spanish arrived in Meso-America. Crucially, the head was excavated from the site by professionals, said David Kelley, an archaeologist at the University of Calgary, in Alberta {Professor Emeritus} Canada. 'This was sealed under three floors, it's as close to archaeological certainty as you can get.' {Emphasis and N.B.}
Archaeologist David Grove, of the University of Illinois, agreed that the head was Roman, but pointed out that there was no evidence of Roman influence on pre-Columbian cultures. He suggested that the head could have been washed ashore from a Roman shipwreck in the Gulf of Mexico. Even so, there seems no denying that Roman sailors had reached American waters. 'Ancient Mesoamerica, v.10, p.207; Scotsman, Guardian, D. Mail, 10 Feb; New Scientist, 12 Feb 2000.'
Mark McManamin, professor of geography and geology at Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts, is convinced that the Carthaginians discovered America between 350 and 320 BC. In a recent issue of 'The Numismatic' magazine, and at a meeting of the American Friends of Tunisia Association in May 1999, he interpreted a series of puzzling gold coins of that period as depictions of the known world, including a land mass to the west of Spain. Experts on ancient trade routes believe that the Carthaginians almost certainly reached the coast of Brazil, where Punic amphorae (containing olive oil and wine) have been found; and Punic coins of the 4th century BC have been excavated at seven sites in the eastern United States, unfortunately not specified in our source ('Jeune Afrique', Paris,7, 1 Sept 1999).
According to the Xinhua Chinese press agency last August, similarities between nearly 300 markings found on pottery, jade and stone at unspecified ancient native sites in central America closely resemble 3,000-year-old Shang dynasty characters for the sun, sky, rain, water, crops, trees and stars inscribed on animal bones or tortoise shells, known as Jiaguwen. American and Chinese pictographs in 56 matching sets were shown to senior academics at a symposium in Anyang, former capital of the Shang dynasty.
These impressive similarities add fuel to theories that Chinese arrived in the Americas before the end of the Shang dynasty in 221 BC. Shang legends state that a king led his people on a journey to the east, with some scholars believing that it took them across the Bering Strait to North America. The Chinese classic, the 'Shan Hai King' of about 2250 BC, contains what seems to be an accurate description of the Grand Canyon. {We have articles describing a massive complex being found dug into the walls of the Grand Canyon at a significant height up from where the river now flows. Pictures of a Buddha-like statue that is a lotus god from Egypt are in the article. The US government put it off limits after the Smithsonian went and made a report verifying an earlier report from credible people early in the 20th century. You can't get to the area any easy way, even if you wanted to go behind the officials. The Grand Canyon was one of my accounts when I worked in the area.} Peanuts and maize have been found at ancient Chinese sites dating back to 3000 BC. The orthodox view is that neither of these plants left their native America before their export by European colonists in the 16th century AD.
In AD 499, a Chinese Buddhist monk, Hui Shen, returned to China claiming to have spent 40 years in the land of Fu Sang. He left a record of the country he visited, which has been recorded in official histories - a land thought by some modern scholars to be ancient Mexico.
Then there is the 3,000-year-old pottery found on the Valdivian coast of Ecuador, decorated and incised in exactly the same way as pottery from the Jomon area of Japan {We touched on the Canadian Museum of Civilization and a lie saying there was evidence of earlier local industry.}, and not preceded in Ecuador by plainer and simpler bowls and urns, 'National Post (Toronto), 27 Aug; D. Telegraph, 28 Aug 1999'.
The maverick historian Farley Mowat recently brought out 'The Farfarers: Before the Norse', in which he argues that the first Europeans to reach America were 'Albans' {A site in central America has a similar name.} who set off from the north of Scotland in the 8th century AD in search of walrus ivory (for centuries considered more valuable than gold), sailing from Iceland to Greenland and northern Labrador. The 78-year-old kilted Canadian author {Who my oldest brother's first wife's father spent two years with as a missionary in the Arctic.} maintains that the remains of long houses far above the tree-line in northern Quebec were built by these immigrants {Yet I've read articles saying Mowat has no first hand experience and other stupid remarks about an eminently honest person who has nothing but disdain for most academics.}. His 36 books on the life, history and ecology of North America have sold 15 million copies, and he shrugs off the scorn of conventional historians. 'Times, 9 Nov. 1999. For a general round up of pre-Columbian discovery-of-America claims, see FT61:26-28.'" (3)
My first-hand viewing of many sculpted or cast heads at the Villas Archaeologique and the fresco of blond warriors at the Temple of Warriors there (Chichen Itza) is just one of a thousand other factual things you'll see in this encyclopedia. Botany brings the American sweet potato that convinced nay sayers in that discipline, which had been insistent they were right. Sociologists, geologists and map makers as well as historians and oceanographers and physicists are all included as every possible area of study has good evidence the liars had good reason to hide their true purposes from people they sought to abuse. 'Liars' is a very kind word, and it was quite gracious of the Amerindians to say the white man spoke with a tongue that is forked.

Ten Essential Tips For Bali Vacation

Author:

Source: articledashboard.com

Bali is a small, beautiful island famed for its unique arts and cultures, enchanting nature and the friendliness of its people. Most people come to Bali to experience the marvelously rich cultural heritage; some come for the beaches and the waves, others for pure relaxation. Bali is situated in Indonesia, one of the best tourist destinations in Asia.

For those who plan to visit Bali, I herewith write Ten Essential Tips for Bali Vacation for your consideration.

1. To enter Bali, or Indonesia for that matter, make sure your passport is valid for six months upon entry into Indonesia, otherwise you'll find yourself on the next plan out. You also must have proof of onward passage (i.e. a ticket out of Indonesia). Tourist, social and business visas can be obtained from any Indonesian embassy or consulate abroad. Citizens from Asian countries comprising Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippine and Laos do not require a visa, only a valid travel document. Visitors from some thirty countries are also provided with a 60-days tourist visa issued directly upon arrival. Consult your travel agent or airlines, mention your nationality.

2. Money matters: The rupiah is the basic unit of money. Foreign currency, in bank notes and traveler's checks is best exchanged at major banks or authorized money changers. Do change money at a reputable looking location, use your own (or the hotel's calculator before changing), as the ones used by some places can be "a little inaccurate". Most important; always count your money before you leave the place. Traveler's checks are accepted at all major hotels and large shops; some smaller shops will also accept them. Passport number is required. Do not forget to take passport (or a photocopy of your ID), with you at all time.

3. When changing large amounts of money please check each note carefully as there are a number of (noticeably) fake bills in circulation.

4. There have been a few cases of handbags being snatched after one has cashed money at banks or money changers. Put your money away in your "bum-bag" or hold onto your handbag tightly.

5. Credit cards and charge cards: To day many hotels, shops large and small accept plastic, with the proviso that an additional 3% is added onto your bill. However, when traveling to the village, take rupiah with you. Keep small change handy when riding in public transports or buying drinks at warung.

6. Make sure you either have personal insurance or travel insurance that will cover in any accidents. If you rent a car (must be with insurance), beware of motorbikes, as there are too many on the road. When you park, philippines tip travel , the car, always remember to remove all your properties. Crime is on the increase and can spoil your holiday. Be careful with your belongings at all times. Cases of handbag snatching have been reported, so leave important documents in your hotel safe (carry photocopies). Do not forget to look and listen while you cross the road. Cars may stops, motorbikes may not!

7. Going to Bali, dress casually. Take light clothes, as the weather is warm-to - hot throughout the year. Remember Bali is a land where prayer and religious festivals take center stage. When visiting a temple or attending ceremonies, make it a point to respect local customs and traditions. Always wear a sarong and sash. Do not walk in front of people praying. Do not use a flash camera or point your camera to the priest's face. Do try not to step on offerings in the street (walk around them). Women are not allowed to enter temples during menstruation.

8. Do not drug! It can carry the death penalty, and there are enough foreigners residing in Bali courtesy of the Government prison service.

9. Do not swim outside designated swimming areas on the beach, current/undertows can be very strong. Swim between the red and yellow flags. Don't swim too far out. Do not leave your belongings unattended on the beach.

10. Health: International health certificates of vaccination against smallpox, cholera, and yellow fever are required only from travelers comprising from infected areas. Typhoid and paratyphoid vaccinations are optional but still advisable. Drink only distilled or mineral water, or water that has been boiled and eat a lot of fresh fruit - do your body a favor. Don't worry too much about ice, it's a government quality controlled in established bars and restaurants. Most people traveling through Bali get the infamous "Bali Belly" at some time or other. Taking and Imodium will stop you up. At the first time of discomfort (diarrhea and cramping), drink strong, hot tea and avoid all fruits and spicy foods. Taking charcoal tablets will help alleviate the cramping.

Bali is worth a visit, plan your vacation, go on line and book your preferred Bali hotels or contact your travel agent. Thanks you readers.

Mind Your Travel Manners In Aruba

Author: Justin Burch -

Source: articledashboard.com

There are plenty of travel stories about "ugly Americans." Usually, these travelers aren't aware they are doing anything wrong while on vacation. But if you aren't aware of local customs and etiquette, offending those around you may be inevitable. Though you will find that the uniquely Caribbean hospitality and slower pace of Aruba tourism are markedly different than anything in the U.S., adjusting isn't nearly as difficult as it seems. As you enjoy all of your activities in Aruba, here are some tips to make sure you and everyone else remain happy and comfortable.

As you are traveling to escape the often hectic nature of American life, try to enjoy the more relaxed pace of Aruba. Instead of being pushy and trying to speed up your meals and activities, simply be patient and friendly. Don't wait until returning home to realize how much you relished these opportunities to relax.

Regardless of where you plan on traveling, engage in some research on local greetings and customs. If you are greeted with a hug or a kiss on the cheek, return the favor graciously. When addressing the staff of any establishment you enter, try to be friendly and always introduce yourself with a "hello" or "good day." The respect you show towards others will be returned to you whenever you need assistance.

It also isn't too difficult to be a classy tourist. When traveling to Aruba, pack some business attire along with the swimsuit and sandals. As you wouldn't wear beach gear to a restaurant at home, you should try to look your best when out on the town abroad. Take your courtesy one step further and try to understand the dining traditions of your destination. It is a good idea to pay close attention to others' behaviors in formal situations. If you find yourself confronted with unknown foods, try your best to expand your palette. When attending events, be an attentive and appreciative audience member regardless of how much you enjoy a performance.

When traveling to a country that speaks any language other than English, make an effort to learn important phrases. You should be able to understand and return greetings and ask simple questions, aruba travel tip , . When you use English, speak clearly and without slang, paying close attention to other people's reactions to determine if you are being understood. But do not expect to be accommodated with English translation everywhere you go. Traveling to foreign places always involves a compromise.

If you find yourself staying in someone else's home or any individual goes out of their way for your vacation, a small gift is always a nice touch. If you are invited to dinner, bring flowers or a bottle of wine. Tokens like these can greatly assist common interactions and even earn you some friends. Obviously, gifts don't have to be expensive; your good intentions will certainly be recognized on their own.

Be generous with your tips, but don't overdo it. Most people in the service industry rely heavily on gratuities, yet a tip far above the accepted amount could be perceived as an arrogant flaunting of wealth. The following is a list of generally expected gratuities, but you can always ask your concierge about local guidelines: A doorman should receive $1 to $2 for carrying your luggage and up to $4 for securing a taxi. If a bellhop assists you getting to your room, $1 to $2 per bag is customary with an additional $2 to $3 for bringing a requested item. The concierge, always a valuable resource when traveling, deserves $5 to $10 when performing any special service and probably more when securing tickets to a sold-out event or a difficult dinner reservation. When dining, waiters and bartenders should always receive 15-20% of your total bill amount. It is also a good idea to offer tips of $2-3 to housekeepers and valets whenever they come to your assistance.

Most importantly, enjoy your vacation. As long as you keep in mind that you aren't at home and need to practice moderation and respect, you will always look like a smart traveler, not an "ugly American."

A Land Divided - A World United - The Panama Canal

Author: Sid Kaplan

Source: articleage.com

It has been called "the big ditch", "the bridge between two continents" and "the greatest shortcut in the world". One look at the immensity of the Canal, and you will understand why a French company with a labor force of 10,000 men went bankrupt trying to excavate it. The project, while conceived in 1534 by Charles I of Spain, began in 1882 and ended seven years later in disaster with over 22,000 people dead from disease and pestilence. The United States took over the assets of a French company in 1902, aruba travel tip , and began the process of finishing the canal.
It is a epic story, appreciated best by transiting the canal by ship, viewing what many historians say changed the face of the industrial world. This 51 mile water tollway shaved over 7,900 nautical miles off the distance between New York and San Francisco.
Sailing the Panama Canal not only offers a rich detailed and fascinating history narrated by an on-board Canal historian; it is the natural beauty that surprises most of all - an ever changing panorama of jungle clad hills, shimmering Lake Gatun, the high arched span of the America's Bridge, and of course the intricate workings of the locks and gates themselves.
As you approach the canal from the Atlantic you travel through 7.2 kilometers of dredged channel. Your ship then proceeds for a little over 11 kilometers slightly westward before reaching the Gatun Locks. Huge ocean liners are lifted, as if they were toys, 85 feet by three sets of locks, to the level of Gatun Lake. This lake resulted from damming the Chagres River and broaching the Continental Divide. This combined with the Gaillard Cut was a feat equal to digging a trench 10 feet deep by 55 feet wide from New York to California.
Passing through Gatun Lake to the mouth of the Gaillard Cut and down the 13 kilometer channel, you arrive at the Pedro Miguel Lock, which has a drop of 31 feet. This lock borders Miraflores Lake, about 55 feet above the level of the Pacific. Your ship continues about 2 kilometers through Miraflores Lake and reaches two Miraflores Locks. These locks lower your ship to Pacific tidewater levels. Leaving the Miraflores Locks you continue 4 kilometers to Balboa on the Gulf of Panama.
From the deck of your ship or your own private balcony, you'll marvel as the locks open one into the other. The locks are double to allow one ship to be raised while another is being lowered. The lock chambers on the Panama Canal are 1000 feet long and 110 feet wide. Transit time through the canal is usually seven to eight hours. As a counterpoint, there is the natural wonder that surrounds the man-made one; a lush, virgin rain forest; impenetrable and inviolate, except for the canal. Imagine yourself watching the sun rise in the Atlantic and set in the Pacific. Visit Mayan ruins and colonial cities.
You can watch cliff divers plunge from dizzying heights or hike in a cloud forest where hummingbirds dart in greater numbers than crows back home.
Early in 2000 the United States turned over 100% control of the canal to Panama after jointly sharing its protection and control since 1977. The final cost of the canal US$336 million dollars which is less than the cost of the new cruise ships that pass through.
While transiting the canal is an incredible experience, remember your cruise, depending upon itinerary, will also take you to places like Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica; Cartegena, Columbia; Santa Cruz; Zihuatanejo and Hualtulco, Mexico or perhaps Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Oranjestad, Aruba or possibly Willemstad, Curacao and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
Engineered as carefully as the Canal itself, these cruises combine just the right number of exciting ports with long, leisurely days at sea. And no matter which direction you go, you'll discover a remarkable collection of wonders, both natural and man-made.

Driving Tips In Canada

Author: Andrew Bond

Source: articledashboard.com

Canadian highways are superb, with excellent, well-maintained, surfaces offering uncongested travel to most parts of the country; roads here certainly rival those of the USA. It's not unusual to travel for hours and not pass another vehicle in some of the more remote areas.

Road rules

Canada honours all valid foreign driving licences; therefore an international driving permit is not necessary. The minimum driving age is 16 but you need to be 25 to hire a car with most companies. Seatbelts for the driver and front-seat passengers must be worn, with infants strapped into a safety seat. Some provinces require that drivers switch on their headlights during the day.

The maximum limit for level of alcohol in the blood while driving is 0.8mg/ml and there are strict penalties for violators.

Speed limits vary from province to province, as a general guideline:

Urban areas: 50kph/31mph
Outside schools: 30kph/18mph
Rural roads/highways: 90 - 110kph/56 - 68mph.

Motorways and the road network

Highways mainly consist of two- to three-lane roads, narrowing to a wide, single lane in the countryside. The Trans-Canada Highway covers 8,000kms/5,000mls making it the longest highway in the world; while the Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16), which runs through Canada's vast prairies,, rv travel tip , over the Rockies, and to the Pacific coast, is almost as long.

As in all major cities around the world, parking can be difficult in Canadian cities. Look for signs marked with a green 'P', indicating municipal parking, and avoid street parking as the car may be wheel-clamped or towed away if left in a restricted zone.

Costs, distances and times

Most of Canada's service stations are open 24 hours for fuel, with automobile maintenance and service available during business hours. Canadian cars use unleaded petrol, sold by the litre, with considerably cheaper prices than those encountered in Europe, but slightly more expensive than prices in the USA.

Typical driving distances:

Vancouver to Toronto: 4492kms/2790mls
Vancouver to Yellowknife: 2411kms/1498mls
Toronto to Montreal: 539kms/335mls.

Safety

Don't drive beyond your limits, as distances in Canada are deceptive. Stop every couple of hours to relax, and don't try to drive beyond 500 or 600kms in a day. The CAA provides reciprocal assistance to members of international auto clubs.

10 Top Travel Tips For Flying With Children

Author: Paula Garrett

Source: articledashboard.com

If travelling on public transport is a nightmare with children, how bad can it be when flying with young children or a baby? Yes, air travel with kids can seem daunting, but the secret really is to be prepared.

Start by checking out the facilities offered by your airport and airline, and follow the advice below which offers suggestions for travel preparation and, tip toddler travel , for keeping children occupied during their time at the airport and on the flight.

1.When booking flights try to book the seats at the same time. I've found it better to book two seats of two with two window seats, allowing the children to have a window seat each. It helps to keep them occupied while waiting to take off. Most children, especially the younger ones, are fascinated by watching the other planes, the luggage being loaded and refuelling.

2.Try to avoid changing planes and book a direct flight. If a stop over is unavoidable, allow plenty of time to change planes, allowing for delays and time for the kids to run about and let off steam between flights.

3.When organising hand baggage, give each child a small bag with a selection of things to keep them occupied during the flight. A small cuddly toy, playing cards and coloured pencils are good, and sorry, but you can't beat an electronic game or portable DVD player. If your children love reading, allow them to buy a book at the airport, the excitement and novelty of a new book can keep them engrossed for ages.

4.Take snacks for the airport and water (bought after security), include chewy sweets for take off and landing.

5.Make sure you pack enough supplies for the flight. If you have a baby or young toddler, pack plenty of nappies and a change of clothes. Don't forget to change the baby's nappy before boarding. If you are trying to toilet train your child - give up on the flight and use 'pull-ups' - it's just not worth the hassle!

6.Try to arrive at the airport early allowing plenty of time to get to the airport. Aim to leave half an hour before you need to, plan for unexpected delays, and don't forget about parking. If you're stressed because you are running late, your children will get stressed too.

7.It's advisable to take your buggy / stroller to the gate - most airlines will let you take your buggy to the plane's door and will then put it in to the hold. It's a good idea to take an inexpensive, umbrella type buggy as they do get thrown about in the hold.

8.Another great tip is to book meet and greet airport parking. This is a stress free, time saving, ultra-convenient method of airport parking, especially when travelling with children. All that's involved is driving directly to the airport terminal where a driver is waiting to collect your car, get your kids and cases out of the car, hand over the keys and walk in to the terminal. The driver parks your car in their secure car park and when you return he brings your car back to the terminal for you - just walk out of the terminal building, load up your luggage, and kids, and away you go! It really is that simple.

9.Draw your child's attention to everyday life in the airport. Chat to them about what is happening throughout the journey, even the very young find things we take for granted, such as checking in hold baggage and passing through airport security, fascinating.

10.Dress your children in loose, comfortable clothing - they are more likely to get irritable and complain if they are wearing tight, restrictive clothing.

By following these tips you should minimise the strain on you and your children.Remember a holiday is for relaxing so focus on the destination not the journey and above all enjoy your holiday.
